The Polar Express is a 2004 animated film. It follows a young boy who boards a mysterious train to the North Pole, embarking on a magical journey that explores belief, wonder, and the spirit of Christmas. The story has become a nostalgic staple for many, capturing the feeling of childhood and holiday magic.
Our approach reimagines key moments from the film through a paper-cut illustration style, transforming the cinematic journey into a handcrafted, storybook inspired sequence. By using layered silhouettes, textured cutouts, and warm, atmospheric lighting, the project creates a title sequence that feels more intimate and connected to the film’s emotional core, capturing a sense of nostalgia and imagination.

Process
Camera animation testing in C4D
3D layout --> adding materials --> adding lighting
Working with f–curves in C4D to smoothout the animation (the most challenging part of this project)
