This is a 3D motion animation piece about a little boy, curious about the world beyond his small village, set off on a journey atop a lotus leaf to explore the wider world. He ventured forward, passing through layers of clouds and drifting over increasingly larger mountains. Eventually, it seemed he saw something through the mist and headed into it. But when the fog cleared and the sun shone through, he was nowhere to be found, leaving only the vast, continuous mountain ranges behind.
The idea came from a Chinese proverb “山外有山”, literally translating to "Beyond the mountains, there are more mountains," conveys the idea that there are endless possibilities and discoveries beyond what is currently known. I want to use this work to celebrate the magnificence of nature and the insignificance of human beings in front of nature, and express my admiration and awe for nature and the “mountain beyond the mountain" through this little boy.
When executing the project, I referenced traditional Chinese landscape paintings and color palettes, which had influenced me greatly since I was a kid.
